Digital Learning Day is about celebrating innovative digital learning practices, making it a natural connection to the Speak Up Research Project. All4Ed’s annual celebration of the incredible ways technology connects and empowers learners is February 13th. This year’s Digital Learning Day (DLDay) focus is bringing “heart” into learning through technology.
Here’s How You Can Tie DLDay & Speak Up Together
Reflect on how your digital learning initiatives align with Speak Up trends:
- An increasing number of K-8 teachers are leveraging digital tools to differentiate learning experiences, with 75% now reporting weekly use. This trend highlights the growing role of technology in supporting learner variability and addressing the digital use divide.
- Middle and high school students are increasingly recognizing the same digital tools that teachers use to create active learning environments as key to their academic success. When asked to identify the most effective digital tools and resources for learning, students highlighted:
- Online videos to bring greater context to classroom learning – 78% of students in grades 6-12
- Two-way communication tools for student feedback – 77% of students in grades 6-12
- Online databases to support student-initiated research – 76% of students in grades 6-12
- Multi-media creation tools and online games – 69% of students in grades 6-12
Connect Your Digital Learning Day Activities to Speak Up Findings
DLD Activity: Highlight your teachers’ active use of technology by sharing ways they empower students to take ownership of their learning, collaborate with peers, and demonstrate problem-solving through technology.
2024 Speak Up Findings:
- More than half of elementary students who participated in Speak Up during the 2023-24 school year believe that knowing how to use computers is important to their future (59% of 3-5 graders surveyed and 65% of Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students).
- High school students are more likely to report personal agency benefits and workplace skill development benefits compared to their peers when they are empowered in their classes to use the various active learning technologies.
